HAWAAW CAPS AMAZING COMEBACK WITH BENCH POINTS EDGE FOR UPSET WIN IN GREATEST AGLIONE BOWL GAME EVER

Aglione Bowl VII
****************
4- HAWAAW 45 (25)
2- Luscious Brodkin 45 (24)

In a game that will go down in history as the greatest Aglione Bowl game ever played, Hooligans a Whompin' and a Whoopin' ended a Cinderella season with an amazing monday nite comeback to upend heavy favorite Luscious Brodkin in Aglione Bowl VII. HAWAAW QB Steve Young and K Jeff Wilkins scored 6 each on the monday nite finale to tie the score at 45 each, and backup QB Elvis Grbac's TD run propelled HAWAAW to a 25-24 bench points advantage.

HAWAAW sprang out of the gates with a 12-0 lead on Saturday afternoon, netting 6 each from WR Isaac Bruce and newcomer RB Mario Bates, while Luscious Brodkin's all-RFL RB Curtis Martin was held scoreless. LB used a solid sunday attack, typical of their season long dominance, to vault into a 45-33 advantage at the end of the day. WR Michael Jackson starred, scoring a season high 21 points, while QB Mark Brunell, WR Carl Pickens, TE Wesley Walls, and K Cary Blanchard added 6 each. Disaster was averted by HAWAAW when, after getting goose-eggs from WR Keenan McCardell and TE Frank Wycheck, MVP candidate RB Terry Allen busted out of a month-long slump with an amazing 21 points, matching his season high. A two-kicker attack on the bench helped give Luscious a 24-19 edge on bench points heading into the monday nite showdown.

Steve Young did his part on monday nite, scoring 6 in meaningless first half action before being pulled. A late TD run by Elvis Grbac shifted the bench points in favor of HAWAAW 25-24, and K Jeff Wilkins came on to tie the score at 45, clinching the upset victory for HAWAAW. A tie could have been averted, had GM Brodkin not called in to RFL HQ minutes before Sunday kickoff to bench RB Bam Morris, who ended up scoring 3 pts, in favor of RB Anthony Johnson, who scored 0.

The victory is GM Pynadath's first Aglione Bowl championship in this, his only appearance to date. The Luscious Brodkin loss gives GM Dave Brodkin a 1-1 record in Aglione Bowls; he won Ags Bowl III back in 1992 with Brodkin Citgo Machine. The loss is devastating to Brodkin, as he has engineered, without a doubt, the greatest RFL team to never win a championship.

3rd place game
--------------
6- Willie's Wankers 27
1- Rampaging Gibbons 26

The Gibbons, losers of only 2 games all season long, drop two straight in the playoffs to close out a glorious season in misery. The Wankers squeak by in this one thanks to a superb 12 point effort from QB Jeff Blake, overcoming Gibbon RB Ricky Watters' 9 point performance.

5- Pistol Whippers 36
3- Store 24 20

Contraversy is averted thanks to a strong supporting performance from the Whippers roster. "WR" Kordell Stewart scored 12 points from the QB position to lead the way, shouting a signal to RFL management to come up with some sort of Kordell-position rule during the off-season. Meanwhile, QB Brett Favre capped a great season with another 9 points.

YEAR IN REVIEW
**** ** ******
The 1996 RFL Year in Review will come in three installments, as they are completed.
1- YEAR IN REVIEW (team-by-team analysis)
2- AWARDS AND RECORDS
3- EDITORIAL

All RFL GMs and fans are invited and ENCOURAGED to contribute to the editorial section. Topics of discussion will likely include rule change proposals for next year. Anything else you feel like writing about will be greatly appreciated as well.

RFL Awards are handed out each year to the cream of the crop. Usually there is one voter, me. So this year I'd like to get everyone who gives a rat's ass to chime in with a vote. I'll send out a ballot in the next week or so. RFL Awards are given to:
* RFL MVP
* Playoffs MVP
* Steal of the draft
* Pick-up of the year
* GM of the year
* Rookie GM of the year
* anything else you can think up.

Thanks for participating in a great season!
