HAWAAW UPSETS GIBBONS TO EARN AGLIONE BOWL BERTH

HAWAAW GM Joe Pynadath, one of the winningest GMs of all time, earned his first trip ever to the Aglione Bowl this week, upending 1996 Steamroller Champions Rampaging Gibbons 32-20. Next week's Ags Bowl represents a climax of 6 years of playoff frustration for the Brown Wonder.

In the other semifinal game, playoff favorite Luscious Brodkin stormed into Ags Bowl VII by virtue of a 27-22 victory over the upstart Willie's Wankers.

SEMIFINALS IN REVIEW

1- Rampaging Gibbons - 20
4- HAWAAW - 32

HAWAAW got clutch contributions from some key scrubs this week, including 6 each from RB Leonard Russell and TE Frank Wycheck. RB Terry Allen rebounded from a month-long scoreless streak, scoring 6 as well. The Gibbons, meanwhile, saved their worst performance of the year for the most important game to date. Scrubs William Floyd and Eric Metcalf did their part, scoring 6 each, but star power of Watters Brown & Sharpe went scoreless. The win sends HAWAAW GM Joebob to his first Ags Bowl in 6 lifetime playoff appearances.

Luscious B rolls on despite their lowest single-game output since Week 5. A balanced attack featured 6 each from Brunell, Johnson, Jackson, and K Blanchard. Brods' 8th win in a row matches the Gibbons' mark for the longest streak of the year, which ended this week.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Wait, better yet why don't we blame RFL's antiquated prehistoric low-scoring system. yeah, that's it.

1996 RFL PLAYOFFS

Week 17: AGLIONE BOWL VII

Well folks, it's all boiled down to one game. You know these teams well. A win for Luscious B will put them alongside, perhaps even above, all the greatest RFL teams in history. If Luscious falters in this, their shining moment, they will go down as merely another good Brods team who couldn't win the big one.

HAWAAW's presence in this game is a tremendous surprise. A team that has hedged on the border of averageness all year long, they managed to string together enough wins at the right times to net them a 4th place regular season finish, thanks mostly to the early season efforts of Terry Allen and the late season efforts of Steve Young. Basically this has been a one man team the whole season, with the on-field leadership shifting from Allen to Young only recently. Two solid, albeit average, team efforts have gotten them through a lackluster RFL playoffs and into their dream matchup with Luscious Brodkin.

2- Luscious Brodkin (12-4) vs 4- Hooligans a Whompin' and a Whoopin' (11-5)

A little history: these two chums (1202C predecessors of the BAR) co-GM'd the Citgo Bombers into the playoffs in the league's inaugural season. Since then, Pynadath has missed the playoffs only one year, but had NEVER won a single elimination playoff game until two weeks ago. Brodkin, meanwhile, has had more prominent success, leading Brodkin Citgo Machine to an Ags Bowl title in 1992, but has had trouble getting in the playoffs consistently despite usually touting a high scoring club. Needless to say, from a career standpoint, both GMs need to win this game bad. From a season standpoint though, HAWAAW has already exceeded expectations, upsetting the Gibbons last week, while Luscious B has been chasing this very goal since they started out 1-3. Their only loss since then came at the hands of a 67 point Globulant outburst in Week 8.

Young has been hot, and will hold the key to HAWAAW success. Allen returned half-way to his old form last week, but with the playoffs out of reach and playing Dallas doesn't bode well for his productivity. Mario Bates was a flash in last week's scrub pan. Remember Leshon Johnson? Bruce & McCardell do not inspire, and Wycheck doesn't score two weeks in a row. Luscious had a so-so performance last week, and could potentially win this week with a similar effort. But if Steve Young catches fire, Brods will need a little extra from at least one guy, which shouldn't be too much to ask. In the Ags Bowl, one game is one game, and anything could happen. Bearing in mind the always ominous prospect of a huge upset, I still have to put the line at:
