Romantically Favor Liv Week 11 November 19, 2002 **** RFL WEEK IN REVIEW **** 11 DOWN, 3 TO GO With only 3 weeks left to go in the 2002 regular season, let's take a peek at the playoff picture. The cutoff point would appear to be 7-7 (with teams scoring more overall pts having the edge over lower scoring 7-7 teams). That puts AC Milan (9-1-1) in - and Furious Gefilte Fish (8-3) very comfortably in. Due to Repulsive Punk Asses (7-4) being the 2nd lowest scoring team in the League, they must avoid a 3-game losing streak to end the season - a streak that would drop them from their current #3 spot all the way out of the playoffs. SPITZ34 (3-8) seems to be the only team eliminated at this point. Due to their scoring woes, Junior Mints (4-7, 14th overall in scoring) would also appear to have no shot at making the playoffs. The Kavir Dwellers (4-7, 11th overall in scoring) and Samurai Sumos (4-7, 8th) are also in grave danger. But clearly a 3-game winning streak should get rookie GM Mike into the Big Dance. 9 teams between 6-4-1 and 4-6-1 appear to be fighting for 5 playoff spots. Once again... RFL should be in for an exciting end to the regular season! BENCH TEAM! yes, j garcia and t henry have been solid performers this season... but stan's lineup has much more than adequate firepower to overpower any 2-man gang. r gardner did well to score 8 for joepa, but even though stan chose to start t streets over c conway... stan had plenty of WR pts to overrun gardner and a bryant. culpepper put to rest some concerns about his job as the vikes' starting QB, but stan must be concerned about t gonzalez' performances of late (7 pts in his last 4 starts). joepa finally had his leading foursome (garcia, davis, henry, gardner) intact for the 1st time in 5 weeks, but hanging a ref in effigy on your front door isn't going to curry any favor with the zebras - even if you're playing the raiders. amazingly... joepa only has 4 TE pts all season long (4 1's and 7 0's)! garcia 13 sdavis 3 thenry 9 gardner 8 bryant 2 graham 0 wilkins 3 c-pep 18 dillon 6 jstew 5 driver 13 streets 4 tonyg 1 feely 6 -------------------------------------------- Junior Mints 42 Everyone Go Deep 54 pregame spread: JM by 5 hmmm... who made junior mints a favorite over everyone go deep?!? yes, c martin has been coming around of late (double-digit pts in 4 of his last 5 starts), and deuce has been a stud... but even with 10 from d northcutt, joebob's tiny brown treats were no match for gary's sturdy band. the bad news for joebob was the fact that northcutt's 10 led his team this week. curtis and deuce combined for a mere 10. gary got his 2nd consecutive 20 from m harrison. and anytime you get 14 from coles and becht, you've got to feel good about your chances at winning. gary trails RFL with 50 total PK pts - nearly 4 ppg less than PK pt leaders cals and vesh (93 pts). the a train piled on 9 more on MNF to further embarrass joebob. kerry 7 martian 7 deuce 3 glenn 3 n'cutt 10 booba 7 cortez 5 bledsoe 7 atrain 9 amos 2 harrison 20 coles 8 becht 6 hanson 2 -------------------------------------------- Golden Years 35 The Kavir Dwellers 65 pregame spread: GY by 4 ali carried a 6-game losing streak onto the frozen ponds of cals' backyard, but the desert dwellers skated away with a 30 pt drubbing of the minnesotan golden girls. while m brunell amazingly hit double-digits for the 1st time in what seems like forever, the most amazing aspect of the kavir dwellers' game was the 26 combined pts from thrash and toomer. ricky led all of ali's babas with 19 - while steven tyler played TE for wycheck. cals tried to recapture that faulk and faulk magic from week 10, but k faulk (despite a return TD) came up 13 pts short of his week 10 output - and m faulk sat out in favor of alicia silverstone. whatever happened to batgirl anyway? she seemed to be destined for much greater things... bj 11 alicia X kfaulk 6 tibrown 4 ibruce 8 dudley 1 mort 5 brunell 10 ricky 19 atwain 2 thrash 15 amani 11 tyler X akers 8 -------------------------------------------- Cleveland Steamers 24 Furious Gefilte Fish 33 pregame spread: CS by 50 we suppose vesh should get some credit for not resting on the huge pile of talent drafted for him by joebob and wang on Draft Day. but in attempting to put his own stamp on his club, vesh has seemingly traded away his pool of talent for a vat of stank. chad johnson has been a nice waiver wire find for vesh. but when chad is your team's leading scorer over the last 2 weeks, something's amiss. furious gefilte fish continues their winning ways despite being one of the lowest scoring teams in RFL. with a 4-0 scrub record (yes, this was yet another scrub win this week), brodz "deserves" to be 4-7 instead of 8-3. on this week, TO stepped up to carry the other cold fish on his back - as no other FGF starter scored more than 3 pts. brady 3 hearst 4 najeh 0 chadj'son 12 rwayne 0 fauria 2 l'well 3 greasy 3 kevan 2 ed 2 to 22 tholt 3 heap 0 peterson 1 -------------------------------------------- Repulsive Punk Asses 57 SPITZ34 53 pregame spread: RPA by 5 in this week's STEEL CAGE GRUDGE MATCH (mike and drew have NOTHING on brad and richard!)... richard overcame an arsenal of foreign objects from the brad corner to claim the sony tsunami trophy (3-0 against brad, mike and wang). c portis is the only repulsive punk ass starter who didn't spend time on brad's team. none of this week's spitz34 starters were in brad's lineup until week 4 (plaxico). hines continues to play out of his mind (2nd in WR scoring for the season) - while a brooks and c portis also posted solid efforts for richard. for brad, chad pennington's ass can't possibly be hiding any more surprises - can it?!? fortunately for brad, he has k warner ready to step back in. brad's smith WRs were solid, but the lack of production from the RB and RB/WR spots were spitz34's undoing. brooks 12 portis 11 tjones 1 hines 23 muhsin 3 pollard 0 nedney 7 p'ton 18 fredt 3 plaxico 2 jimmy 10 rod 9 ricks 1 hollis 10 -------------------------------------------- Transactions Team ---- ADD ---- DROP look 'em up for yourself on yahoo! ******************************************************** WANG'S WEEKLY WRINKLE ====== ====== ======= Take a look at the current overall pt scoring rankings: 681 AC Milan 591 Las Ranas De Mayan 579 Ghetto Fab Bindys 549 Chinks in the Armor 542 Golden Years 540 Fat Bastards 532 Everyone Go Deep 528 Samurai Sumos ------------------------ 515 Cleveland Steamers 507 Spitz34 502 The Kavir Dwellers 487 Raider Hater 481 Furious Gefilte Fish 479 Junior Mints 468 Repulsive Punk Asses 446 TheFreakinBlackHawks #1 AC Milan is rightfully the top team record-wise. #13 Furious Gefilte Fish is somehow 8-3! #15 Repulsive Punk Asses is somehow 7-4! Ghetto Fab Bindys (#3) and Chinks in the Armor (#4) face each other this week. A loss for Wang should eliminate CitA from playoff contention. A loss for Shiv would put GFB on the brink. RFL never promised anyone a rose garden. ****************************************************** RFL GM Profiles: Shivan Desai, GM of Ghetto Fab Bindys ****************************************************** Shivan Desai: Continuing the BU RFL tradition, my intramural AA flag football team is heading to the playoffs baby! This Sunday night, the Floor 2 Mafia goes into Nickerson Field as favorites to win it all this year and win an all expenses paid trip to Cornell for the National Collegiate Flag Football championship. I have heard stories from cousin Snehal about his flag football accomplishments nearly 10 years ago. My team is on the brink of surpassing all glory of Wilding... blah blah blah... RFL WIR Editorial Staff: So what happened in the flag football playoffs? SD: [silence] RFL: OK then... a trip to Cornell, eh? What kind of prize is that anyway?!? SD: You know that everyone is awaiting the day when the greatest GM in RFL history writes a WIR. As I keep saying, I am the future of this league, and I would love to prove it by writing a WIR. Let the voice be heard! All GMs that want to see this happen, give the GFB GM a "shout out"... blah blah blah... RFL: When would you like to write the WIR? We'll send the template to you straightaway. SD: [silence] This has been an RFL interview. Lord of the Rings -------------------------------------------- NEXT WEEK's ACTION **** GAME **** OF **** THE **** WEEK **** 5-The Kavir Dwellers (4-7, 45.6) vs. 13-Junior Mints (4-7, 43.5) Ali Edge Joebob SMcNair -- KCollins RWilliams <- DMcAllister ASmith -> CMartin JThrash -- TGlenn AToomer <- DNorthcutt FWycheck -> BFranks DAkers -- JCortez It had to happen sometime... The Kavir Dwellers had to make their token 2002 appearance on GOTW. But this cannot be entirely called a mercy appearance - as Ali smoked Cals last week to cling to his faint hopes at recapturing his 2000 Aglione Bowl glory. Joebob's loss last week has left Junior Mints with no margin for error if Joebob intends to lose yet another Ags Bowl. As proof positive of what a cruel bitch RFL is... how can 2 of RFL's most revered GMs be in such a desperate situation this "early" in the season?!? Ali and Joebob are clearly evenly matched for this loser-leaves-town duel. Injuries might play the deciding factor - as injuries (ranging from mild to severe) to McNair, Deuce, McNabb, all other Giant WRs, and Wycheck all should impact this game's outcome. Ali has the better overall season scoring average, but Joebob is the self-proclaimed guru of RFL. **** Time for Joebob to earn his keep, Mints by 3 **** -------------------------------------------- Other Tilts: 3-Ghetto Fab Bindys (5-6, 52.6) by 8 over 2-Chinks in the Armor (4-6-1, 49.9) Both teams need win to stay in serious postseason contention. Shiv's projected starters appear to be facing softer Ds. Wang should be put out of his misery. 7-AC Milan (9-1-1, 61.9) by 10 over 8-Furious Gefilte Fish (8-3, 43.7) Records say this is a clash of top 2 teams in League... but rosters say one team will trounce the other. 15-Fat Bastards (5-6, 49.1) by 9 over 9-Samurai Sumos (4-7, 48.0) Zach beat Drew. Drew beat Mike. Will Mike even the rookie GM score? Or will Zach take it all? Zach's Raiders face the Cards. Mike has Brees stepping in for McNabb. 11-Raider Hater (4-6-1, 44.3) by 11 over 10-TheFreakinBlackHawks (5-6, 40.5) Drew is cranking it up - trying to peak at the right time. Joepa peaked in Week 1 (and again in Week 5). 12-Las Ranas De Mayan (6-5, 53.7) by 1 over 14-Everyone Go Deep (6-5, 48.4) Stan snapped out of his 4-game losing streak. Gary can't possibly expect 20 from MHarrison again. 4-Repulsive Punk Asses (7-4, 42.5) by 2 over 1-Golden Years (6-4-1, 49.3) Winner should clinch playoff spot; loser should yell, "look out below!" Cals' hopes ride purely on Marshall. 6-Spitz34 (3-8, 46.1) by 4 over 16-Cleveland Steamers (6-5, 46.8) Is the "bad blood" between these 2 for real? Or just email theatrics? Brad's team has rounded into shape nicely - albeit too late to make the playoffs. If Vesh makes the playoffs, he should be easy pickin's.
